Discipling young adults to become devoted Christ followers and grow as the next generation of Christian leaders.
RVA LEADS is a gap year program based in Richmond, Virginia. It’s designed for young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 who are seeking to revitalize their faith-walk, develop leadership skills, become a part of a Christian community and discover their calling. The program is ideal for those who wish to begin the rest of their lives firm on the foundation of Jesus Christ.
Each year – during the months of late-October through June – a group of young adults are selected to enter RVA LEADS. From there, they will start the exciting next phase of their lives with strength and a positive direction. Students will participate in weekly courses that will reinforce their skills in areas such as:
- Servant Leadership
- Pastoral Care
- Gifts Assessment
- Leadership Development
- Money Management
- How to Start a Ministry
- Resumé Writing
- Interviewing Techniques
Additionally, students will have the opportunity to foster relationships in the local community. They’ll also participate in outreach and volunteer opportunities and missions work – domestic and international – that will give them a rich and Christ-like perspective for the rest of their lives.
RVA LEADS Core Values
At RVA LEADS, prayer is a critical aspect of everything our teachers, mentors, coaches and missions partners do. We encourage our students to adhere to a strong study and application of Biblical principals for their every day decisions and goals. Here, we train our participants in developing the discipline they need for ministry and life beyond the Church – challenging them to go beyond their comfort zones and establishing relationships with people outside of their generation.
For the Students
Transitioning students who opt for this program will discover growth and develop their personal experience outside of the traditional classroom. While many in the young adult demographic opt to enter college courses, the business world or the missions field immediately following high school, studies show that those who take a year to grow, volunteer, travel and develop important relationships report higher levels of motivation, and greater satisfaction with their careers.
Each year, a new class of students will develop their callings into missions through:
- Lectures taught by experienced pastors, church leaders and business professionals.
- Domestic missions trips to cities including Washington, D.C. and New York City.
- Receive individual gift and personality assessments and career guidance.
- A month-long international mission trip.
- One-on-one mentoring and coaching sessions.
- Individual skills assessments.
- Fostering community in a small-group setting.
- Involvement at the local church.
- Flexible schedules that allow for additional college courses, part-time work or volunteering.
How the Program Works:
Students in the RVA LEADS program meet twice on a typical week, alternating between A-week and B-week schedules. This gives students time to work, take college-level courses and complete their community service hours.
- Mondays from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. (includes community dinner).
- Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (this time-frame includes most of the community and outreach services).
Our specialized staff is dedicated to the service of Christ through ministering to young people; and our teachers range from professional backgrounds from organizations such as: United States Army, the Dave Ramsey Network, U.S. Bank Global Corporate Trust Services and the Richmond City School Board.
Ready to Learn More?
"We want every student to be able to enter either the workforce or college owning their faith, knowing who God is and having a pretty good idea what God has called them to. If a student leaves our program knowing what it means to live on mission and how to do it, we have done what God has called us to do."
